Happy October

Design

Being that it’s October I figured I’d dedicate some posts to horror, scary, Halloween creations. Here are some awesome images to check out to get you scared and inspired from all different artists 😉 Chosen by yours truly. Each image links to it’s creator and please make sure if you want to use these images you check with the user’s terms first.

I think scary designs are the most interesting, I had chosen to do Old horror movies for my BFA theme when I was in school. [You can see some of those in my portfolio section]. Halloween itself is even fun, I like dressing up in whatever costume and putting on makeup! I’ll be 26 next month and I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of Halloween. I think it’s the most creative holiday, don’t you agree? Last year I was Abby Scuito from the show NCIS and I STILL don’t know what I’m going to be this year BUT when I do I’m sure I’ll post it. Lots more of these scary posts to come. If you have any scary kind of art, please share! I’d love to include it in a post.

resume and portfolio

Design

Today I re-did my portfolio on christiedesigns.net. I added more examples to that portfolio and changed the layout using this amazing jQuery script. I also edited my creative example page, which only show a certain amount of the examples. They are all part of the same portfolio but christiedesigns.net is a continuation of the portfolio page I have here. You can also comment on each piece if you click on it. They will show individually as if they were a blog entry of their own.

I’ve also updated my resume, tried to go deep into the “creative resume” idea this time. Being the mac-obsessed girl that I am, some sticky notes and a screenshot were my best friend with this one. Feel free to download the pdf.

Fun with type

Design

These are some typefaces/fonts that I downloaded recently. Possibly you may want to download them, I usually use 1001fonts.com but if you can’t find them there, google may help. ROSEWOOD has of course been around for a while… but I just can’t seem to get sick of it. “Insaniburger with cheese” Is actually supposed to be the Burger King font I believe, but it’s actually a very nice font. I love the way the ends are curved rather than just cut off.

Do you have a favorite font? Tell me what it is!

My first set of icons

Design/ Technology

icon set preview

So I recently just had my blog re-designed (thank you for your help tawni) and I was searching for social network icons but I didn’t want clean shiny iphone-like icons. I searched through so many different kinds of hand drawn ones and all the sets didn’t include the icons I actually wanted. SO I made my own! Now I have it available for everyone to use. There’s only 5 icons (flickr, tumblr, twitter, aim and delicious) in the set with 2 sizes of each (32×32 and 64×64) but if you are looking for other icons please just ask, I can and will add to this set if its requested enough 🙂

The only thing I ask is if you download them and use them please leave a comment and tell me!! 🙂

Quote Prints

Design/ Quotes

for sale in my etsy shop!

I’ve added a few of what I call “Quote Prints” to my etsy shop. I’ve always been a fan of *collecting* quotes. I have a special file right on my desktop and if I see a quote that I like, I quickly copy paste and add it to my collection. I figured why not have a way to have these quotes as a physical thing? So I decided to make these quote prints using my own artwork and photography. They are all 8 x 10 unless you suggest otherwise and only $9 in my etsy shop. Do you have a quote you’d like to share with me? Please comment with it or send me an email christie(AT)girloncanvas.com. I can of course make a custom made Quote Print for you if you’d like, even using song lyrics if that’s what tickles your fancy.

Also please be sure to plug your website! I’ve made a new plugboard… just for fun. http://girloncanvas.com/plug

design portfolio

Design/ www

Since I’ve graduated I’ve been working on my online design portfolio. Suggestions please, I was unsure about the background for a while. I think I’m still unsure LOL. I’m trying to keep it clean yet still look artsy at the same time. I didn’t use a gallery script either – there are too many of them and they are too complicated. I just used a lightbox for each piece. It was a little bit of a pain having to make my own thumbnails but I survived. Please let me know your thoughts.

dragonfly II

Art/ Design

Before I start my actual blog – I’d like to start off and say I am looking for other bloggers/artists that are interested in exchanging links. I’ll link you under blogroll/artists If you are interested please email me christieATgirloncanvas.com
Remember that digital drawing of a dragonfly I drew last semester? Well it turned out pretty nice, because I added a different touch to it. I put the drawing in layers. An idea I had for quite some time and never had a project I could use it on. Since I have sooo much STUFF being the semi-hoarder than I am and not enough closet space, I decided to sell it on Etsy. The pictures don’t really show very well the depth the drawing has since it is layered. The top layer is the outlines, the middle is the color, and the back is the background. The glass in the frame is not hugging the image so it makes it even better. I’m still proud of this project, and hoping to find it a home! It will be up on Etsy for the next few months.
