gaga telephone

Art/ Videos

I don’t know about you but I really enjoyed Lady Gaga’s new music video Telephone. In some scenes she really reminded me of a Roy Lichtenstein painting. I think the yellow-ish hair and mucho eye liner did the trick. I like it.

She really is a unique character. She doesn’t wear hats or accessories… she wears sculptures! You go Gaga.

dragonfly II

Art/ Design

Before I start my actual blog – I’d like to start off and say I am looking for other bloggers/artists that are interested in exchanging links. I’ll link you under blogroll/artists If you are interested please email me christieATgirloncanvas.com
Remember that digital drawing of a dragonfly I drew last semester? Well it turned out pretty nice, because I added a different touch to it. I put the drawing in layers. An idea I had for quite some time and never had a project I could use it on. Since I have sooo much STUFF being the semi-hoarder than I am and not enough closet space, I decided to sell it on Etsy. The pictures don’t really show very well the depth the drawing has since it is layered. The top layer is the outlines, the middle is the color, and the back is the background. The glass in the frame is not hugging the image so it makes it even better. I’m still proud of this project, and hoping to find it a home! It will be up on Etsy for the next few months.

feeling complete

Rambling

My blog is finally feeling like my blog now that I have a more personalized theme made. Thank you to Whitters who helped me with the coding part. I’m not too wordpress friendly yet, but I will get there.

Lately I’ve been posting a lot on Twitter just because its easy and I have a blackberry, so why not? I’ve come across quite a few artists, designers and etsy people on there. Its a lot of fun. I also just discovered the delicious plugin for firefox yesterday. I had NO idea you could add favorites from anywhere and sync it to your computer. I was hanging around the computer lab yesterday after class and noticed this guy Anthony had it on his firefox, so I asked him about it. I’m still getting used to using a mac too, so I’m still kind of a baby when it comes to the little things about a mac. Although I am sure you could do the same for a PC, I didn’t have a delicious account until a few months ago anyway. If you have a delicious account, add me to your network or whatever. I am not used to using it 100% but I will figure it out in no time I’m sure.

I’ve been working on my BFA every week since January. My show is April 12 – 16 so I’m looking forward to getting it all finished. The theme for the show is re-making old horror movie posters, as if they were made today. It is fun, but very challenging. I’ve not done a lot of work in large format and it has been a struggle, but I’ve figured out a solution. I’ll be posting what the posters look like on here eventually, but they will of course be downsized. I really just can’t wait to move forward, and get this done with. This is what I have been working up to for so long but I can’t wait to be working and starting my life!

I am also looking for other bloggers, and other artists to link in my “blogroll” and “artists” link section, so if you are interested in link exchanging please leave a comment or contact me and let me know. I’m going to attempt to blog once a week at least from this point on, now that I am living back home it will be a lot easier. I also think wordpress has an app for blackberry, so that should be good if I can figure it out 🙂

I’m here

Rambling

I’m still here I swear, I’ve been busy working on everything! I’m mostly on twitter since I can easily update and browse that with my phone. I still really want to re-do this blog. I’m still on the hunt for someone to customize it for me. I can do it, I just don’t have the patience! If you specialize in making wordpress themes, please let me know! 🙂

Art/ Design

DragonFly So my final full-time semester has started and I’ve been so busy with class projects! I’m taking 4 studio class plus Honors in Art which pertains to my BFA show. I’m really enjoying digital illustration. Although I’m very familiar with photoshop, I started using a wacom tablet to draw, and it’s amazing! I’ve uploaded a small preview of what the dragon fly looks like so far. That’s basically our project, we have to pick 2 insects and draw them in 2 different styles. The next one I will probably do a cartoon style. I’m really having so much fun with the drawing tablet, I have to get myself one – and a mac computer along with it!

I also started working on my BFA sketches. My theme of my BFA show will revolve around children, but I don’t want to go into too much detail about the theme, I want it to be more of a surprise! But I will be digitally illustrating them and also have some handmade collages. I’m very excited! Just about 6 months left to go!

Change & Miami

Rambling/ www

Well It’s been a while.  A lot longer than I wanted it to be.  A lot of change went on in my life over the past month. My dad passed away suddenly.  I put up a splash page in memory of him.  After all, I did get my *artsy* side from him. He loved to paint and draw just as much.  I miss him so much, it’s still so hard to believe but I know he’s there watching me and he will see me through all that I do. I miss you daddy, I hope you’re happy and at rest now!

I also went to Miami the end of July and got to visit the Bass Museum of Art. It was a fairly small museum (compared to NYC museums). I did enjoy it very much.  They had a small exhibit going on there, and it was comparing renaissance art to art and objects of the present.  For example, they had a refridgerator, and that represented the block that The David was made out of. Both being marble, but served different purposes.  They also had a modern David, made to look more like a store front manequin.  I thought it was hilarious!  It’s so true. Everything we have today is molded and and mass-produced.  There are no unique one of a kind things like original David.

They also had the exhibit Tiny Stories going on.  They were randomly put throughout the museum, and just 150 word stories from all different kinds of people.  Some were very funny.  In a way it kind of reminded me of Post Secret.

Overall the museum was very nice, I went on a Sunday and it was real quiet, not too crowded at all.  If you’re ever in Miami and you enjoy museums I definitely recommend it.
